About Us
Founded in 1909, Our Lady of Pompeii Catholic Church has been a spiritual home for generations of faithful in Tickfaw, Louisiana. What began as a small mission chapel for Italian immigrants has grown into a vibrant parish rooted in Catholic tradition, family values, and community devotion.
Named in honor of the Madonna di Pompei, our church was first served by missionary priests before becoming a fully established parish in 1929, led by the Spanish Dominicans. Though briefly returned to mission status during World War II, Our Lady of Pompeii was canonically re-established as a parish in 1973. The cornerstone of our current brick church was laid in 1974, symbolizing a new chapter in our spiritual journey.
We are proud to carry on cherished traditions such as the St. Joseph’s Altar, our annual Blessed Mother Celebration, and the dramatic reenactment of the Last Supper each Palm Sunday. These events, rooted in faith and culture, draw families together and connect us to our heritage.
Our parish is more than a building—it’s a family. Generations have been baptized, married, and laid to rest here. Parishioners describe Our Lady of Pompeii as a place where “everybody feels like family,” and our doors remain open to all who seek a deeper relationship with Christ.
