Blessed Mother Feast
Each year on the first weekend in July, our parish family at Our Lady of Pompeii gathers to celebrate the Blessed Mother in a tradition that dates back nearly a century. Known as the Mother of Grace Procession, this annual devotion has been held faithfully since 1927 and remains one of the oldest Marian celebrations in the Diocese of Baton Rouge.
The celebration begins at the Mother of Grace Chapel, where parishioners and guests unite in prayer and song. Together, we carry the statue of the Blessed Mother through the streets surrounding the parish, a tradition passed down through generations. Rosaries are prayed aloud, hymns are sung, and flower petals are offered in a moving act of faith and devotion. Inspired by the Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii in Italy, this procession connects our small Louisiana parish to the global Catholic Church’s love for Mary.
This celebration is more than a tradition—it is a public witness of our Catholic identity and a cherished expression of our parish’s love for the Blessed Mother. It brings together the young and the old, parents and grandparents, neighbors and friends, as we ask Mary’s intercession for peace, healing, and protection over our families and community.
